Managing by Exception: How we Delivered for PSP NZ Ltd

Executive Summary

Our initial engagement with PSP NZ Ltd was for a SpaceAssessment at their sites. They wanted to ensure that they were storing things in the best way possible to maximise their return on investment. A couple of smaller projects spawned from this early engagement and gave PSP an opportunity to experience the SpacePlan approach.

Though the improvement works were small, we were still able to demonstrate our delivery expertise. Our processes allowed us to professionally coordinate the works at their live sites, managing the works in a way that kept them updated but not physically involved. It was from this experience that we were granted the opportunity to deliver a solution for their purpose-built Christchurch facility.

Project Features

• Total Project Management: We delivered on our SpacePlan promise. This meant minimising any client engagement except for providing regular updates so that the team at PSP NZ Ltd could focus on other areas of their business.
• Compliance & Quality: Managing compliance and quality is always important and this was particularly true given that Christchurch is a high seismic zone. Due diligence in this area meant liaising with the developer (Carbon Property) and our engineers to ensure that everything was fit for purpose including slab strength, baseplates, and section sizes. Liaising with the developer allowed us to address this important component without taking the time of the client. We led the process and notified them of the results.
• Resilient Customisation: PSP NZ Ltd supplies oversized construction materials that require custom storage. Customised racking increases the risk of expensive repairs and extended down time in the future if unique components require replacement. To mitigate this risk and minimise the total cost of ownership, we were careful to ensure that any customisation was modular yet meet their needs.

Summary

PSP NZ Ltd have settled into their new facility and are very pleased with the result. From design through to completion, what they appreciated most was the smooth delivery process that was unexciting in the best possible way. Anticipating their needs and managing the process gave them an overall view without needing to get personally involved.
